About Mundaka Surf School

Mundaka Surf SCHOOL is located just a few meters from the famous left-hand wave of Mundaka, in Bizkaia, Basque Country.

In 1980, Craig Sage traveled from his hometown of Newcastle, Australia, to Europe. The school opened its doors in 1985 to provide surf equipment not only to local surfers but also to all visiting surfers passing through. After more than 35 years, it remains one of the most important surf shops and schools in Europe.

Craig has always dedicated a large part of his time to teaching locals how to surf—a passion he still enjoys. Over the past 40 years, he has spent countless hours in the water with both young and old, making their surfing experience unforgettable. The surf school was nominated as No. 2 in the Basque Country by Surfing Euskadi for its facilities and the quality of its teaching—something he is proud of and hopes to continue offering for many more years.

We offer classes for all levels, from beginners to advanced, always in a unique natural environment.

Stand-up paddle

At the school, we have also introduced the new sport of stand-up paddleboarding. Lessons are based on a hands-on approach, paddling in the Laidatxu area (during high tide). This is a safe zone, ideal for learning the sport. The access point is close to the school, which is very convenient when handling large boards. Classes are approximately 1 hour long, and the cost, including all equipment (board, paddle, and wetsuit), is €25. Group sessions for 6 to 8 people can also be arranged.

I had the pleasure of surfing with Mike Dobos, who is the best instructor I've ever had. He quickly identified mistakes and gave me the space to figure things out on my own, which is important because surfing isn't a black-and-white sport—you can discover your own unique style.

He's definitely a great teacher, especially compared to others who were good surfers but not effective instructors. On top of that, he's a cool and positive guy, making the experience even more enjoyable.

 Trustindex verifica que la fuente original de la reseña sea Google. Na de eerste kennismaking met het surfen waren we verkocht! We waren met 2 dochters van 8 en 10 en natuurlijk de ouders. De eerste dag konden we allemaal al een paar keer staan! Daarna zijn we nog 4 dagen teruggekomen. Surfen is fantastisch! En de begeleiding ook top. Ondanks de taalbarrière van vooral de jongste, hadden de kinderen ontzettend veel lol met de leraren. Ik zou het iedereen aanraden om hier les te nemen. De groepen zijn niet te groot en er is ruime begeleiding, ongeveer 1 op 5/6, soms zelfs 1 op 4. Heel erg bedankt allemaal!

La explicación en la playa, muy clara y dentro del mar, muy atentos y corrigiendo.
